Abstract
An automatic hull panelization program has been developed. The program PANELGEN is written in the C language and designed for generating ship hull panels from a given ship offset table and the prescribed bow and stern profiles of a ship. The generated panel file can be directly used as input for the computer program SMCA4, and the generated panels can be displayed on-screen with the GNUPLOT program available for any machine with a UNIX system, or with the GEOMVIEW program for the SGI Workstation. The work was carried out according to the project workplan. Two ship hull forms are used as test examples. The generated panels of test examples are used as input for the SMCA4 program for numerical computations. PANELGEN has the ability to generate a different number of panels depending on the number of waterlines specified by the user in the input offset file. It also takes a specified trim condition of a ship and generates corresponding panels for different trims. Cubic spline and linear interpolations are used in the panelization process whereever needed. The numerical test results obtained from the automatically generated panels show good agreement with results previously obtained from the manually panelized hull.
