Abstract
The document describes a video-rate hardware system for the removal of particle noise, created by falling snow in image sequences. The brightness of a number of successive images is compared, pixel by pixel, to determine whether it belongs to the static scene or a snow particle. Discrimination is achieved by simply using a minimum processor which selects the pixel of minimum brightness. The system developed was implemented in hardware and tested against typical image sequences. It is shown that this basic snow removing scheme is greatly improved with the addition of a feedback control that uses fuzzy logic to control the feedback gain.
