Abstract
The User's Guide outlines the basic operation of the Tucker-Davis Technologies (TDT) system for studying three-dimensional sound imaging. This guide was written for the Noise and Communications and Display Systems groups at DCIEM by Welker Audio Consulting, under contract (W7711-5-7265/001/TOS). The system as implemented by DCIEM consists of a convolver system (Power DAC) to mount various sound spatializing algorithms, a number of auxiliary signal processing and conditioning modules (System II) which facilitate the presentation of acoustic stimuli to subjects, and a host computer with supporting software. While not intended as a standalone replacement for TDT's own system documentation, this guide will serve as a comprehensive introduce to the basics of setting up and programming simple spatialization related routines for the Power DAC. While TDT's own manuals are adequate with respect to general programming issues, they are severely lacking in a number of areas that will concern the researcher interested in using the Power DAC as a convolution tool for 3D audio simulation. Throughout this User's Guide references will be made to sections within TDT's own System II and Power DAC manuals which the reader is asked to review before proceeding with the material outlined in this Guide. This will avoid any overlap with sections that are adequately covered within TDT's own documentation. TRUNCATED
