Abstract
The Geospatial Data Warehouse Project (Work Unit 2JA13) investigates the concepts and technologies that will facilitate the finding, selecting, integrating and processing the best data from heterogeneous geospatial databases. The goal of this project is to facilitate data interoperability among different user communities through data warehousing. The technology has found great success in business applications and many software tools are readily available on the market. However, due to the complexity of geospatial data, most existing data warehousing tools cannot be used for geospatial applications. Developing new data warehouse tools for geospatial applications represents a challenge because of structural and conceptual differences in business and geospatial data processing. This document provides an introduction to data warehouse technology and the issues involved in extending the technology for geospatial applications.
