Abstract
This is the second report on the analysis of the calibration data taken with a high frequency (HF) antenna array and a signal source towed behind a small aircraft. The analysis described in this report uses the second of two array calibration methods developed by E.K.L. Hung at DREO; the previous report uses the first method. This work is part of a bigger task to develop a calibration method for the HF antenna arrays in the Canadian Forces Supplementary Radio Systems (CFSRS) modernization project. The calibration method used in this report is superior to the method used in the previous report. The results derived from the calibration data generated with source elevations 31 degrees or lower show that it reduces the deviation of the array beam patterns from the ideal ones, reduces the errors in signal direction estimates, and increases the ability of a high-resolution direction-finding method to resolve signal directions.
