Abstract
The exchange of database feeding information between workstations of a command and control information system (CCIS) and with other automated systems of joint and combined forces is presently accomplished through formatted messages. Moreover, the interoperability of a Canadian CCIS with those of the United States and of NATO countries requires the use of USMTF, ADatP-3 and OTH T Gold message types. With the DREV participation in the NATO Data Fusion Demonstrator (DFD) project, Canada has developed a generic ADatP-3 message editor. This editor is generic in the sense that it uses message formatting, editing and validation data stored in a message format database. To maximize resue of software and concepts a flexible ADatP-3 and USMTF Message Handling Toolkit (MHT) was built based on the DFD work. The OTH T Gold formalism was not included in the toolkit due to the limited available resources, but would be esasy to integrate. This document describes the toolkit in terms of its architecture, capabilities and integration into CCIS developments. It also proposes foreseen capability extensions.
