Abstract
DREV, in collaboration with Lockheed Martin Canada, is investigating the development of a computer-based, real-time decision support system that can provide advanced support capabilities for combat system operators in countering the current and anticipated threat to the Canadian Patrol Frigate. Among its principal roles, this system will: continuously take in data from the ship's sensors and other information sources; support the formulation, maintenance and display of an accurate tactical picture derived by fusing all available data, thus leading to enhanced situation awareness; and assist with the determination and selection of a response to anticipated or actual threats. This document is concerned with the development of a weapon engagement manager for Above Water Warfare that forms part of the system. The manager adaptively plans and directs in real time actions to counter air and surface threats. A generic agent architecture is introduced and current work toward its implementation and performance evaluation in a closed-loop simulation environment incorporating a custom-designed knowledge-based shell is described.
