Abstract
The acronym A'GEM is taken from the phrase Automatic Generation of Equations-of-Motion and A'GEM is a software package designed to simplify the process of obtaining equations-of-motion for three-dimensional multibody systems. Although A'GEM can be used to derive the equations-of-motion for many dynamic systems, the aim of this document is to describe its use in the simulation of the dynamics of road vehicles and, as a result, the manual contains discussions of various aspects of dynamics which are particular to road vehicles. This report functions as a theoretical manual for the A'GEM Road Vehicle Dynamics software package. There is a separate document which describes in detail the use of the software under the DOS operating system. Cosme describes it's use with the AutoCAD based pre- and post-processors. There are four major sections in this report. It begins with a brief introduction to road vehicle dynamics which is limited to very basic concepts which can be explained using the historical two-dimensional "bicycle" model. This is followed by a description of the A'GEM multibody formalism. The modelling is then expanded to include the development of equations which allow the use of A'GEM in simulations. The final section deals with non-linear tire modelling.
