Abstract
A Human Factors evaluation of a prototype corrective vision insert system and a replacement spectacle system was conducted to determine which concept to pursue as the replacement for the Canadian Forces current respirator spectacles. The aim of the field trials was to examine the compatibility of these two sytsems with various items of clothing, equipment and weapons systems. The spectacle and insert system were compared to the in-service spectacle system in a controlled Army field trial and a user Navy trial. Each replacement system had its pros and cons but overall the new spectacle system was preferred by 83.8% of Army subjects. It is recommended that the CF pursue further development of the new spectacle design. A list of recommendations for product improvement are given as well as details of the advantage and disadvantages of each system.
