Abstract
The EARS architecture allows the transfer of massive amount of information between the data sources and the storage subsystems. It is also capable of monitoring the transfer activity, set up the radar system for operation and control, and perform some data processing on the radar data. The main function of the Data Logger and Control System (DLCS) is to provide data collection capabilities of EARS. EARS is used by defence scientists in the realization of experiments leading to the development of innovative radar algorithms. Typically, EARS will be set up in a controlled environment approaching battlefield conditions (field trials), radar data will be collected and then analyzed off line by the scientists at the Defence Research Establishment Ottawa. The EARS System Manual provides a detailed description of the Data Logger and Control System (DLCS) within the Experimental Array Radar System (EARS). The main objective of this doucment is to give technical readers a thorough understanding of the architecture of the DLCS and the intricacies of the system. Each subsystem within the DLCS will be described with enough details to understand its functionality and its relationship with other subsystems as well as providing an overview of its own internal operation.
