Abstract
The EARS architecture allows the transfer of massive amount of information between the data sources and the storage subsystems. It is also capable of monitoring the transfer activity, set up the radar system for operation and control, and perform some data processing on the radar data. The Data Conversion System unit is controlled by a custom designed Tape Interface Board (TIB) which initiates and manages the data transfers between the tape unit and the disk array. The TIB is also capable of transferring the information back (from the tape unit) to the disk array. The other modes of operation include the transfer of information stored on disk or tape to any devices on the VMEbus and the transfer from VMEbus to tape. The Maintenance Manual contains the information required to ensure the proper installation and operation of the Tape Interface Board. The operator will conduct a series of steps that, if completed successfully, will indicate a properly functioning board.
