Abstract
The office of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) requested a forecast of the age distribution of the Canadian Forces (CF), assuming current human resource policies and staff levels remain in effect. In order to accomplish this task within the time available, it was necessary to make a number of simplifying assumptions and these are documented here together with the results obtained from modelling the entire CF officer and non commissioned member (NCM) populations over 10 and 25 year time intervals. Results indicate that, relative to the 1997 age distribution, an "age gap" will develop in both the officer and NCM populations. In the long run, this gap will largely disappear and the age distribution will flatten out.
