Abstract
The Defence Research Establishment Valcartier (DREV) in Canada and the TNO Prins Maurits Laboratory (TNO-PML) in the Netherlands have undertaken a colaborative activity known as the Integral Rocket Ramjet Demonstration Program (IRRDP) to investigate the key technologies of airbreathing missile proplusion through the design, fabrication, and testing of a solid fuel ducted rocket engine with an integral booster for a medium-range air-launched missile. Falling under the CA/NL Memorandum of Understanding on Co-operation in Defence Science and Technology, the resources expended on each side were approximately equal, being equivalent to one million NLG or $750K Canadian. The program's goal was to develop a technology base for the Canadian and Dutch Armed Forces in order to meet the following objectives: - to improve the operational capabilities of the Armed Forces, in terms of threat assessment, foreign weapons evaluation and potential applications; - to be able to assist the Armed Forces in decisions concerning future purchases of weapon systems equipped with airbreathing propulsion; - to be able, if an international industrual effort is initiated, to participate in future multi-national (airbreathing) propulsion projects for missile development programs on a basis of (industrial) expertise and capability and demonstrated international co-operation.
