Abstract
The report describes the expansion of the Flight Instrument Laboratory (FIL) to include the measurement of weight, centre of gravity, and moments of inertia of RPV's and aerial targets. The Mass Properties Instrument (MPI) provided by BSI was the KGR 1500, manufactured by Space Electronics Inc. of Meriden, CT. This instrument was developed specifically for missiles and rockets and was optimum for the requirements under the contract guidelines and constraints. It was capable of measuring and recording the weight, centre of gravity (C/G), and moments of inertia (MOI) of objects weighing up to 1500 lb. The work was performed under the direction of Mr. W.H. Friend, president of BSI. The BSI project team consisted of Mr. D. McKindsey and Mr. K.S. Lee, project engineers. Technical advice from Space Electronics was provided by Mr. R. Boynton, president.
