Abstract
The Generic Modelling Utility (GeM) is a software package developed by the Department of National Defence for producing military human resource (HR) simulation models. Career flow modelling of Canadian Forces (CF) occupations, as conducted in GeM, has achieved a great deal of acceptance among HR planners and career managers. However, the GeM software has proven to be somewhat problematic to support and difficult to learn. This paper presents an analysis of GeM functionality and makes recommendations about its continued use as a modelling tool for the CF.
