Abstract
This technical memorandum summarizes plans and information used in preparing the prime contract specification for the development of a software tool for the Defence Research and Development Board (DRDB) major development project Improved Ship Structural Maintenance Management (ISSMM). It contains general information and description of existing capabilities under the following headings: development environment; Halifax Class geometric, structural and material databases; operational sea loads; global/detail finitie element analysis; damage modelling and analysis; ultimate strength assessment; fatigue crack initiation and growth assessment; component stress and stability assessment; and mission risk assessment. This document is intended to provide optional guidance to the contract bidders in preparing their proposals. It also serves as a discussion of the state of the art in DND for ship structural analysis.
