Abstract
The purpose of this research note is to present an overview of security issues in Central and Eastern Europe. This description of the current regional security environment is based on extensive interviews with officials, parliamentarians and acedemics in four countries: the Federal Republic of Germany, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Ukraine. A broad range of concerns shared by them includes NATO expansion, the building of a post-Cold war security architecture (especially relations with Russia), peacekeeping, as well as the future of democratization and market reform in Russia and Ukraine.
