Submo3: A frequency domain simulation tool for submarine motion in waves, and its use with maneuvering models

Abstract
This report summarizes the developments made to Submo2 resulting in the more recent version, Submo3. Particular changes include the addition of surge motion characteristics, and the ability to output exciting forces to a data file. These changes result in a complete 6 degree of freedom submarine motion model. The results from the software are validated in this work using an ellipsoid and Series 60 hull form, using Shipmo7 and existing literature. Specific use of the excitation force data file for the addition of wave forces and modelling to existing manoeuvring models, such as DSSP, is also detailed. The software code for wave excitation forces in the time domain has been developed and is presented. The procedures are verified by linear time domain simulation and results are compared with frequency domain results from Submo3 and Shipmo7. A method for frequency dependent radiation effects in the time domain is shown.
