Abstract
We examined visual search performance using 52-cm liquid-crystal (LCD) and cathode-ray tube (CRT) displays. Twenty-four subjects searched for navy tactical display symbols on a map background. When display clutter was low (few symbols), there was a CRT advantage for off-axis viewing, but his advantage disappeared as the number of symbols increased.
