Abstract
The presence of suspended particles in a gas has little effect on the mass density, but greatly increases the scattering of the medium. Therefore in the case of photometrically obtained values for mass, density and pressure of the Martian atmosphere at the surface of the planet it is necessary to separate the gas and aerosol components of the atmospheric brightness.
