- Abstract
- This talk will summarize the finding of the DREA-DL(A) and DREA-DL(P) investigations of the heated window failures on Canadian Patrol Frigates (CPF's). Each CPF has 32 heated windows, distributed throughout the ship as follows: 19 on the bridge, 3 in the flight deck control room, 8 in the landing safety officer shelter (LSO), and 2 on the quarterdeck. This investigation was conducted because of a reported extraordinarily high incidence of failure of these windows on ships throughout the fleet with its associated effects on operational activities and repair costs. The report contains the results of failure investigations on some of these windows together with the findings of laboratory experiments and models that were designed to simulate in-service conditions and gather data in support of the failure investigations. It also contains both short and long term recommendations that, if implemented, will mitigate this failure problem.
