Abstract
The Personnel Operation Research Team (PORT) currently does much of its career flow modelling in the Generic Modelling Environment (GeM). GeM has gained acceptance over the past decade, but it is not without shortcomings. A recent report provided a general review of GeM and included suggestions for future model development. In response to this review, a prototype career flow model was created using Visual Basic (VB). This paper describes and evaluates the VB career flow model. It is shown that the results of the VB model compare favourably with those of GeM and that the VB model is not subject to many of GeM's drawbacks. It is recommended that PORT pursue further development of the VB career flow model and add it to its current collection of modelling tools.
