Abstract
To produce specimens for the evaluation of dilution effects in Monel cladding of HY-80 steel, shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding were used to clad coupons of HY-80 with Monel. A range of dilutions from less than 3% iron to in excess of 15% iron were achieved. Monel sheets were welded around the unclad faces of some coupons, to produce specimens suitable for long-term corrosion studies without galvanic effects.
