Abstract
The Canadian Forces are pursuing two separate eyewear projects; replacing the in-service corrective vision respirator spectacles and providing protection from ballistic fragments and the sun for the soldier's eyes. The current respirator glasses were developed over twenty years ago while recent developments in materials technology have made new options available. The ballistic protection is a new requirement based upon the escalating rate of eye injuries on the modern battlefield. This paper will examine the options available for integrating these two projects. The results of Human Factors focus groups and field trials will be discussed as well as the technical and optical specifications developed to date.
