Abstract
This technical memorandum describes the development of a new approach to increasing the efficiency of structural modelling and analysis and its application to commercial hopper structures of bulk carriers. This approach is entitled SRSA (Smart Rapid Structural Analysis) which makes use of DREA's object-oriented programming system, HOOD TK (Hierarchical Object Oriented Developers Tool Kit) which has been developed over the past several years to improve the development of software applications for naval ship structures. The HOOD TK is used for the development of 'Smart Object Models' (SOMs) which are programming entities that fully describe the geometry and analysis parameters of a structural component (ie. decks, bulkheads) and its relationship to other components. The SOMS are used to describe all of the basic ship structural components which are assembled, as required, into larger structural component applications through a 'Parametric Object Model' (POM). The bulk carrier hopper described in this report is a POM application. This TM describes the base Hopper POM development which has been used to produce specialized POMs for classification societies who are using it for fatigue analysis. TRUNCACTE
