Abstract
This document follows from the presentation of Dr Robert Rousseau given at the Matinées Sciences et Technologie at DRDC Valcartier, and from a literature survey on reasoning under uncertainty produced by Drs Rousseau and Wilson Price within the framework of a contract with DRDC Valcartier under the scientific authority of Dr Richard Breton. The aim of this document is to reveal information about the influence of different sources of uncertainty in the human decision-making process. In this document, we use the OODA (Observe, Orient, Decide, Act) loop model as a framework. This model is often used by the Canadian Forces to illustrate the decision-making process in a Command and Control environment. For each phase of the OODA loop, we present different expressions of these various sources of uncertainty, possible corrections from a technological or human perspective, their impact and possible tactics or strategies to help the human to cope with these uncertainties. Some experimental paradigms are evaluated according to their usefulness for the study of the influence of sources of uncertainty in the decision-making process in a Command and Control environment.
