Abstract
The Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes solver TRANSOM, developed at Defence Research Establishment Atlantic (DREA), has been used to calculate the flow around the double hull ship tanker model SSPA 720. The Spalart-Allmaras turbulence model was used. The results have been compared with the hot wire anemometry data of Larsson. Agreement between the calculations and experimental data is very good suggesting that the Spalart-Allmaras model will be sufficient for calculating the flows around many of the hulls of interest to the Department of National Defence.
