Abstract
In this paper the processing and display of multibeam sidescan sonar data is discussed. In particular, for a multibeam system there is often a significantly redundant coverage of the seabed. The question arises as how to best utilise all this data in terms of image quality and subsequent processing (e.g. image segmentation, feature extraction, etc). A variety of options are explored with a particular set of data obtained with the DRDC-Atlantic Klein 5500 sidescan sonar.
