Abstract
This technical memorandum investigates the restrictions of ground moving target detection (GMTI) based on SAR along-track interferometric (ATI) data when in practice unavoidable channel imperfections and imbalances are not counteracted. Two digital techniques to balance the pre-recorded channel output signals are proposed and analyzed. Both techniques are shown to perform excellently using recorded experimental ATI SAR data and seem to be suitable candidates for operational usage. Hence, deeper insight is provided into the calibration requirements for upcoming SAR/GMTI systems such as the RADARSAT-2 GMTI experiment or the enhanced airborne Aurora CP-140 SpotSAR system.
