Abstract
This report describes recent improvements of the vibration isolation system model generation and visualization program - VIMGEN. Two objectives were achieved in the present work. The first involved the development of a finite element capability and a simple analysis procedure for computing condensed stiffness matrices of practical vibration isolation mounts, which normally have complex generation and are subjected to large pre-loads that result in finite static deformation. Detailed numerical studies were conducted on three practical vibration isolation mounts and the condensed stiffness matrices corresponding to various pre-load levels were obtained. The second part of the present work was associated with further enhancement of the VIMGEN program, including implementation of a HOOD-based animation capability; a capability for calculating of the 2D graphics capability. All the theoretical derivations, implementation issues and verification results associated with this work are presented in detail. The numerical results presented in this report indicated that the finite element procedure developed in the present contract is very effective for calculating condensed stiffness matrices of complex vibration isolators, and the various improvements of the VIMGEN code also enhance its usability significantly.
