Abstract
This document describes the requirements and calculations needed to determine meteorological and micrometeorological information from an analysis of data obtained from a fast hygrometer and sonic anemometer. Some of the meteorological parameters of interest are the air temperature, relative humidity, wind vector, and atmospheric pressure, and some of the micrometeorological parameters of interest are the friction velocity, vertical momentum flux, vertical heat flux, Monin-Obukhov length, various structure parameters and correlation times. The document begins by discussing the separate operation of sonic anemometers, and hygrometers, with special emphasis on the Sonic Anemometer (USA-1) from Metek, and the Differential Absorption Hygrometer (Model 100) from Applied Technologies Inc., capable of making the desired measurements. It also discusses the meteorological parameters that can be obtained from these two instruments. Following this, their joint operation and the statistical analysis required to obtain additional meteorological parameters and micrometeorological parameters is discussed. Finally, a brief discussion of the DRDC-Valcartier developed METCALC program is given and examples of the outputs obtained from an analysis performed on real data are presented.
