Abstract
This report presents a functional decomposition model of the coordinator's tasks in a Joint Canadian Rescue Coordination Center (JRCC). This model is not intended to describe exactly the coordinator's current problem-solving approach. Rather, it is meant to formalize the tasks in such a way that beneficial R&D projects aimed at building advisor tools for the JRCC coordinator and the searchmaster may be identified. Also, three DRDC - Valcartier R&D projects related to the planning functions of the coordinator are briefly presented. These projects are: EXtraction of Information from Text and Telephone Sources (EXITTS), agent system for information gathering (ASISA), and SAR mission Planner (SARPlan). The emphasis is put on air incidents and the projects we describe have a potential impact on the operational and strategic levels.
