Abstract
This paper presents a methodology used to quantify the savings in training cost that result from reduced attrition. This methodology is based on the concept that spending that is defferred into the future will cost less in present value dollars. The amount of money saved will depend on the amount that the attrition is reduced, the total cost of the training, and the discount rate used. The specific case studied here is a retention bonus at 20 YOS, but the methodology presented is a general one that could be applied to many different scenarios.
