Abstract
An improved 3D graphics model of the interior and exterior of a SeaKing Helicopter has been developed for simulation and modelling purposes. An existing polygon graphics model was modified to include some missing features, improve certain features, and to add range of motion objects for pedals, sticks, and seats. The interior model was surfaced conventionally using NURBS objects to improve storage and operating efficiency. The polygon model was created using Innovmetric Polyworks software and the NURBS using the Rhino modelling package. Models were built from laser scan data measured by Cyrax and Shape Grabber laser scanners, and consist of polygon and/or NURBS surfaces of the interior and exterior of the SeaKing. They incorporate range of motion objects for the seats, pedals, control sticks. They also include schematic representations of the position of major panel and console dials, indicators and controls. A validation of the final models compared to the original scan data indicates a mean error of less than 3 mm.
