The FASSET system is an extremely high frequency (EHF) satellite communications payload and ground terminal test bed, originally developed under contract for Defence Research and Development Canada – Ottawa (DRDC Ottawa). In July of 2002, Harris Corporation and DRDC Ottawa signed a contract that precipitated the refurbishment and delivery of FASSET to Harris to assist in the development of an EHF modem. This technical memorandum describes the training for FASSET operation and maintenance that was prepared by DRDC Ottawa and presented to Harris personnel. The primary goal of the training was to enable Harris engineers to employ the system for testing and debugging during the integration and development of their EHF modem. This document contains a summary of the training information and the operating instructions. It acts as a reference for future training, and provides a source of background information regarding FASSET capabilities and operation. The training subjects include a FASSET system overview, operating procedures, a demonstration, and a series of training sessions on advanced operations and maintenance topics.
