Abstract
In 2002, Military HR Strategy 2020:Facing the People Challenges of the Future was published. Twelve-Strategic Objectives were developed to provide high-level guidance for effectively addressing the major strategic issues facing the military, namely Leadership, Strategic Plan, Culture, Communication, Consultation, Retention, Recruitment, Professional Development, Transition, Health, Well-Being and HR Systems. Each objective is intended to guide the development of HR policy and Strategic HR activities in ADM (HR-Mil). The next step in the HR 2020 process was the development of nearer-term Change Objectives to guide the HR Transformation agenda. In order to assist in the development of the Change Objectives, an internal assessment was initiated within D Strat HR to identify the current status of the internal HR environment. Information was organized under the HR Strategic Objectives outlined above. The aim of the internal assessment was to evaluate current programs and activities within ADM (HR-Mil) group against the HR Strategic guidance. Thus, the purpose of this paper is to provide a summary of the evaluation, as well as to identify the potential impact of ongoing and planned projects. The material presented was gathered during Fall 2002/Winter 2003 and was utilized by the HR Strategic Working Group during the identification of HR Change Objectives during the Winter and Spring 2003.
