Abstract
This research note documents a study on modeling and analysis of Operation Athena rail and road movements. The study is the second of a series of studies on modeling deployment lift for strategic level options analysis. A model has developed using the Allied Deployment And Movement System (ADAMS) to address the rail transportation requirements of moving the Op Athena equipment from Wainright (Edmonton, AB) to Montreal (QC). An ADAMS model has also been developed to analyze Op Athena road movement of materiel from Derince Seaport (Turkey) to the civilian airport at Sabiha Gokcen (Turkey). This study provides the decision-makers with effective advice and options analysis of rail and road movements of material. It indicates that potential savings on movement cost could be realized through appropriate choices of transportation asset mixes. Moreover, the creation of a logistics database for rail and road movements of materiel is a direct product of this study, which could expedite future studies and movement plans.
