Procedures existed at DRDC that allowed IDL programs to be placed into a Library. Users could search this Library via the DRDC Intranet for routines by filename, routine name, or text within routines. They could then download any programs that met the search criteria. The system was, however, very labour intensive for the IDL Librarian. The Librarian had to examine all programs submitted to the Library one at a time and edit them into the format required by the Library. Then several steps were required to put the files into the Library. Users had just three ways to search for a program and were only presented with a small number of the files’ parameters for each matching program. This report describes work that vastly simplified the tasks of the IDL Librarian, reducing them in the best case to a two-step process. The majority of the original steps have been automated and any required editing is specified by file and line, where applicable. Library users were given three more search methods and the ability to select the file and program options to be displayed with search results. The results were also enhanced, with more items available and links added to provide information on files’ families. Downloading abilities were expanded to allow users to access entire families of related programs at once, rather than one program at a time.
