Abstract
The US FORCEnet vision evolves around the concept of data sharing between multiple systems. Seamless data sharing will likely involve a centralized data structure because this model results in fewer data transformations as compared to other models. However, there are several critical issues related to the transformations often required in the data sharing process. These include codes, units, metadata and data alterations. Each issue is explained in general terms that should be familiar to a wide audience. Some of these issues will be important in the Networked Underwater Warfare Technology Demonstration Project currently underway at DRDC Atlantic.
