Abstract
This work presents an analysis of data collected during Search Events held at the 2005 National Search and Rescue Exercise (SAREX). This analysis provides insight into different aspects of airborne search. It is also meant to evaluate the desirability of conducting flight trials for advanced sensors during Search and Rescue exercises. Probabilities of detection for various targets are estimated from detection rates at the events. Then, the number of targets that would be required to demonstrate improved detection performance at future trials is studied. False detection rates, time lost in callarounds, and target location accuracy are also addressed.
