Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to “provide a recommendation to MILOC MG 40 for MILOC engagement with marine mammal mitigation measures, paying regard to the limited resources and special role of MILOC.” (Extract from the minutes of the 35th MILOC SG dated 1 November 2004.) The paper does not provide a comprehensive review of the considerable amount of work in progress in this field. It is a brief statement of common understanding of the issues with their potential significance to the MILOC community and an outline of ongoing actions to address the issues. Options and recommendations for MILOC engagement are presented in conclusion.
