Abstract
A Canadian investigation into data object development has expanded the Keeley Brick concept into an XML environment. The bricks, which are essentially generic data objects for ocean data, have been defined and used in an XML application to exchange ocean profile data among Canadian ocean institutes. The bricks are briefly described and the content of some key bricks is discussed. The XML data structure resulting from the application of the bricks to ocean profile data is presented. Methods used for converting the XML documents to formats used at the institutes are described. Some interesting results of the structure development are noted.
