- Abstract
- This report presents the analysis and review of a 3D synthetic operational theatre named JCATS. This report was realized to provide knowledge of JCATS’s ability to support the simulation of combat scenarios involving fratricide. Within this report, we describe the most important aspects of JCATS, considering the needs of a project studying fratricide fire. The following review was realized by evaluating the software's functionalities using the Graphical User Interface (GUI), by logging the results of small test scenarios and analyzing them and by reviewing the documentation on the software. This description focuses on the review of simulation models offered by JCATS to model the environment and military vehicles, along with their respective equipment. In addition, this document also analyses the tools integrated in JCATS suite: the logger, the Plan View Display (PVD), and the 3D viewer. Throughout this analysis, the emphasis is put on the documentation and the Application Programming interface (API) offered by each component of JCATS. Our appreciation of each model and functionality of this software is finally rated in a comparative table showing STRIVE, OTBSAF and JCATS side-to-side, and discussed in the paper.
