Abstract
The peripheral vision horizon display (PVHD) is an expanded artificial horizon line projected on the aircraft's instrument panel and may be likened to a large attitude indicator. The horizon line has been produced with either a exenon-arc lamp or a red laser. This review examines the theoretical basis for the display and summarizes the empirical assessments of the display that have been undertaken in a variety of laboratory, simulator, and inflight environments.
