Abstract
This memorandum explores how well a Linux system can withstand the test of time - specifically, whether it can withstand various hardware upgrades that would ensue over the coming years of its lifetime as the operating system for a command and control (C2) system. By understanding how Linux responds to changes in the hardware and how it can reconfigure itself, it allows better understanding of the implications involved in maintaining a given operating system for the lifetime of the C2 system. Through several simple and repeatable experiments, it was determined that a given Linux operating system, if adequately maintained can successfully be used over the lifetime of the C2 system.
