Abstract
The System Test Bed (STB) is a collection of software components that provide active and passive sonar processing and display functionality for sensor, feature, contact, track and environmental data. The development and evolution of the STB began in 1996 to support various sonar system development projects at Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC) Atlantic. Even though the projects didn’t mandate commonality of approach and software, use of the STB provided a reusable and existing functionality base to provide a lower cost, a shorter development schedule and a superior technical solution to unrelated projects. The STB has been designed to provide flexible, portable, reusable, scalable components for a wide variety of sonar applications. The STB functionality is split among similar function components designed to maximize generic functionality and minimize application specific functionality. System integrators assemble only the components needed to provide the desired capability. Third party application integration is readily supported through mainstream commercial interface protocols. This report presents an overview of STB design and components, and then provides examples of using the STB through detailed descriptions of sample active and passive sonar STB applications.
