Abstract
This report is a comprehensive description of the initial development of an infrared (IR) solver module for Martec’s implicit CFD code, ChinookIMP. The work presented in this report includes tasks issued under standing offer W7701-045335/001/QCA (MCU 12 and 17). The focus of this work was to develop a multi-flux (4 and 6 flux) IR solver. A multiflux adaptation of the general finite volume (FV) method was found suitable for use, and was implemented in the ChinookIMP code. The implementation included provisions for a scattering medium, however only gas flows were tested. The IR module was verified by performing simple 2-D and 3-D simulations of heated walls surrounding a non-scattering gas medium. Testing results revealed a close match between computational and analytical results. Future areas of endeavor have been identified, including axisymmetry, particle scattering, and parallel implementation.
