Abstract
This document is the second of a trilogy and follows the technical memorandum entitled “FuRII – An ENVI toolbox for image classification. Part 1: Theory related to fuzzy sets, evidential reasoning and fusion” (TM2005-276). The third and last document will concern the validation of FuRII. During the past several years, many important advances were achieved in fuzzy sets, evidence theory and in information fusion applied to ATD/ATR. However, as of today, there exists no tool on the market, for image classification that is based on these concepts. The objective of the work described in this document aims at filling this gap with the development of a tool built in-house at DRDC Valcartier. The tool, called FuRII (Fuzzy Reasoning applied to Image Intelligence), integrates fuzzy and evidential concepts, offers several knowledge representation possibilities, several fusion mechanisms and also allows integrating source reliability coefficients in the fusion process. FuRII is developed in the IDL™ programming environment and is implemented as an ENVI™ toolbox. ENVI, a tool well known in the military and intelligence community, is developed by ITT Visual Information Solutions©.
