Rapid Environmental Assessment (REA) involves the provision of tactically relevant information to deployed armed forces in a tactically relevant time frame. The spatial and temporal characterization of the environment in which an operation is being conducted should provide pertinent information regarding the effect of the environment on the performance of sensors, systems, and personnel. This environmental characterization includes access to historical or static databases collected from a variety of sources. The REA Database (DB) project brings together disparate datasets previously collected by DRDC that are relevant to REA, and adds a suite of User Interface (UI) components and software tools to facilitate access, display, and analysis of this data. In Phase I, MDA developed a prototype database and web-based interface using three data sources: the Shallow Water Database (SWDB), the Non-Acoustic Data Acquisition System (NADAS) files, and Bathythermographic (BT) profiles. The database is built using PostgreSQL and PostGIS on Red Hat Linux. The web-based interface allows users to view the data by keys (including cruise number, run number, type of data, location, and date). There are options to export the data to the American Standard Code for Information Interchange (ASCII) comma delimited, Microsoft Excel (tab delimited) or Hypertext Mark-up Language (HTML) output files. Phase II extended the work begun in Phase I with additional datasets and new software functionality; in a
