Abstract
The ATR Workbench is a software tool developed by DRDC Ottawa as a means to implement each step of the target recognition process through one or more automated methods, as well as by manual application. In this manner, researchers are able to comparatively evaluate the impact of new algorithms to the analyst’s workflow, while analysts can gain confidence in the utility of contributions provided by automated methods. IDELIX Software Inc. has introduced a visual tool, the Pliable Display Technology (PDT) lens, and has completed an initial integration with the ATR Workbench. The lens allows users to view a smaller area of an image at zoomed resolution without occluding any of the full scene. This is achieved by warping the surrounding imagery in a shoulder region about the PDT lens. In contribution to the target recognition process, IDELIX has examined the concept of data-aware lenses, whereby metadata populated in the ATR process can be used to drive the appearance and properties of lenses in a meaningful manner to an image analyst, such as centring lenses on all targets recognized as belonging to the same class. This report describes the process of integrating PDT lenses into the ATR Workbench, and provides foundations for developing future modules incorporating data-aware lens technology.
